Does an LDS Need the Approval of Her Husband to Get into Heaven?

The concept of heaven is often misunderstood. According to the Doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the destination of our eternal life will be determined by Jesus Christ on the day of our resurrection. As our Advocate with the Father, he will stand with us during our final judgement.

Latter-day Saints do not have a binary concept of heaven and hell like some Christian communities believe. The Apostle John wrote, ldquo;In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.rdquo; There are multiple levels of heaven, each with its own degree of glory.

As stated in the Bible, ldquo;The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.rdquo; In other words, one can achieve the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom through faithful marriages.

Marrying for Eternal Life

The highest degree of glory is attained through marriage. However, this is not just a decision for one spouse to approve. It is up to God to decide the outcomes. Eternity is not solely about personal salvation, but also about the salvation of onersquo;s spouse. If a spouse falls short of their covenant, it will be addressed in a manner that is fair to both parties.
