Enhancing Connectivity with PM-WANI: A Civil Servant’s Rewarding Moment

As I reflect on my journey as a civil servant, one particular moment stands out as both a highlight and a realization of the profound impact our work can have. It was the recent launch of Wi-Fi and FTTH broadband in rural areas of Telangana, marked by the transformation of two villages, Lingapur and Metpally, which had long struggled with inadequate internet connectivity.

Addressing Connectivity Gaps in Rural India

Under the PM-WANI (Prime Minister’s Wireless Access Network for Internet) scheme, the Government of India aims to enhance connectivity options across the country. Many villages in rural Telangana, such as Lingapur and Metpally, were singled out for deployment due to poor mobile internet service and low population density, making it a challenge for telecom operators to justify the investment required for better infrastructure. The FTTH (Fiber to the Home) broadband and Wi-Fi hotspots we installed for the first time in these villages are now bringing endless possibilities to life for the residents. Gone are the days of limited internet access, replaced by an era of e-health, tele-education, and agricultural extension services, among others. The launch of these services was not just a technological advancement; it was a step towards empowering the community and improving their overall quality of life.

A Leap Forward for the Community

Lingapur and Metpally were not just venues for the launch event, but they became the heart of a communal celebration. The excitement was palpable, with a harmonious blend of enthusiasm from the locals and the presence of regional officials, including Shri Banda Srinivas, Chairman of the Telangana State SC Development Corporation, who was present to witness the success firsthand. One anecdote in particular stands out. A woman in her 50s approached me, her voice soft yet filled with emotion, as she expressed her gratitude. Through her, I learned that her son was employed in an IT company in Hyderabad, but his work couldn't be performed from their village due to the lack of internet. With the installation of broadband, her son could now work from home, and she could finally have the chance to see her grandson, a dream she had long held dear. Her words, filled with emotion and affection, were a reminder of the personal and emotional impact of our work as public servants.

Reflections and Future Aspirations

For a civil servant, moments like these are incredibly gratifying. The realization that our efforts are not just about implementation and infrastructure but about connecting with people and becoming a part of their lives bring a profound sense of contentment. It is moments like these that affirm the worth and value of our work. The feeling of contentment and satisfaction derived from such experiences far outweigh the financial benefits of our positions. It is undeniably one of the most rewarding and fulfilling moments of my life. The ability to improve the lives of so many people in the village is a privilege that no salary can fully compensate for. As a civil servant, I am grateful for these Eureka moments where we can become a part of the community's celebration and contribute to their overall welfare. Looking forward to creating more such memories, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a difference. Thank you for reading, and may we continue to strive for better digital inclusion and connectivity for all.
