Let's start by establishing that the work is equal, and both tasks require the same level of intelligence. What has gender got to do with it? If a black woman and a white man both manufacture the same amount with the same quality, they should receive the same pay. Simple, right?
Why Equal Pay Should Be the Norm
It's not just a moral or ethical issue; it's also a practical one. Equal pay is about fairness in the workplace and ensuring that employees are rewarded based on their performance and contributions, not their gender.

As a man, I support equal pay for equal work. And no, this isn't because I'm a "nice guy," although I do believe in moral principles of fairness and equality. It's purely in my own interest to advocate for equal pay.
Imagine a scenario where women receive lower wages than men for the same output. This would be a great incentive for companies to hire mostly women because they can save on labor costs. It's a no-brainer: given the option to hire a worker for less, employers will always choose the cheaper one. This means that men would have to compete at a much higher level to secure jobs, as they would need to be significantly better than the average woman to offset the wage difference.
Benefits of Equal Pay
On the other hand, if women are getting the same wages as men, it becomes easier for men to get and keep jobs. They only need to be as effective as the average woman or man, not the top performer, which increases their chances of employment.
Creating a Fairer Workforce
While equal pay is about fairness for employees, it also has wider societal benefits. For instance, if both men and women choose to become homemakers and parents, it would shift the burden of unpaid work onto women, which is a gendered issue. Equal pay for equal work helps to level the playing field and promotes a more balanced and equitable society.
Supportive Policies and Leave Benefits
In addition to equal pay, other policies, such as paid maternity leave, are crucial. Ensuring that women can take time off after childbirth without losing their jobs or facing significant financial strain is an essential step towards gender equality.
