IIMs, or Indian Institute of Management, are a place where experiences are exhilarating. In my internship, I got a taste of this crazy environment. For starters, the flexibility is exceptional. Walking out of campus at midnight to explore Ahmedabad is not only allowed but encouraged. There are no restrictions for exploration, which is a rare privilege. Similarly, you can stay in the library reading into the night, or even play Frisbee at 2 am at LKP, which is an active and vibrant area on campus. The sheer variety of activities and their freedom makes it a unique experience.

A Beautiful Campus with Talented Individuals

The campus is beautiful, from the picturesque view at LKP, the perfect symmetry and shape of the buildings, the classrooms, to the new campus. The red-brick walls are a constant reminder of the academic excellence here. The beauty of the campus becomes even more evident when you walk around, taking in the architectural details and the lush greenery. The people here, ranging from interns to MBA students, are extremely talented and have something unique to teach you. The professors are also superb, and you have the opportunity to attend a few lectures, which are loved by all.

Internship at IIMs: An Experience Highlighting Academics, Life Skills, and Opportunities

The internship at IIMs comes in the summer break after the second year. It's a matter of great pride to intern at the premier B-school of the country. There's a good chance you might get in, but it's highly competitive. In terms of workload, professors vary widely. Some are laid back and casual, while others are precise and demanding. My professor gave me 3-4 hours of work every day, leaving me with plenty of free time. However, we were required to attend a week of lectures on Mobile Technology with people from Harvard University. This was undoubtedly the best week of my stay.

For some interns, the opportunity to publish papers under their professors comes along, especially if they work diligently. These interns tend to be seen working all day. The experience significantly depends on what you are looking for. If you want an overall experience of life at a B-school and the opportunity to learn a lot about MBA and the surroundings, this internship is a perfect choice. It will widen your perspective on life and open up many new opportunities you never knew existed. Interacting with people of such high intellect, including IITians and IIMites, can change your definition of success and motivate you to work hard on yourself.

If you are a workaholic looking for a challenging summer internship, I would advise applying elsewhere. This internship provides holistic development but leaves you with a lot of free time. The experience mainly depends on your professor and the project you undertake.

Interacting with People and Learning Opportunities

IIMA is a great place, and you can learn a lot by spending time in the incredible library, which offers a wide range of books including fiction, non-fiction, math, science, engineering, and ironically, books on CAT preparation. As an intern, you will be provided with free Wi-Fi, allowing you to access the internet and stay connected. The library also facilitates learning and interaction with people from diverse backgrounds. You can learn a lot from the people you meet, which makes the experience enriching and fulfilling.
