Mastering IBPS PO Mains: Strategies for Success

Before we dive into the strategies for IBPS PO Mains, it's important to understand that if you have qualified in the Preliminary stage, you are well equipped. The Main examination is a chance to fetch maximum marks rather than attempting to complete the test quickly. Throughout the process, it's crucial to maintain a steady approach, focusing on your strengths and preparing accordingly.

Flexibility and Strength-Based Approach

Flexibility in Timing: One of the biggest advantages of the IBPS RRB PO exam is the flexibility in timing. Unlike the Preliminary exam, you aren't bound by strict sectional timings. This gives you the opportunity to play to your strengths, optimizing your performance by dedicating more time to weaker sections.

Scoring in Weaknesses: By saving time from sections where you are strong, you can strategically allocate that extra time to those areas where you need improvement. This balanced approach is particularly beneficial for candidates who are weak in English. The RRB PO Mains comprises five subjects:

Subjects in IBPS PO Mains

English/Hindi Quantitative Aptitude Reasoning Computer Knowledge General Awareness

It's crucial to prepare for all five subjects to clear the sectional cut-off. Many candidates fall short in the Main exam due to not meeting the cut-off in any one section.

Subject-Specific Strategies

English/Hindi

If your English is strong, you hold a significant advantage in the exam. However, if you come from a Hindi medium school, you can opt for Hindi and secure good marks in the language paper. I, for instance, chose English and managed to score high. For in-depth strategies on English, you can visit the section on my profile titled Crack the Bank Exams.

Quantitative Aptitude

This is a scoring subject if you have a good mathematical foundation. To prepare, I recommend reviewing previous year's questions. You can find these on Harshal Aggarwal Sir's channel Learning Capsules.

Reasoning

Reasoning is also a high-scoring section if you practice well. The difficulty level of RRB PO Mains is generally not as tough as that of IBPS PO Mains. Even in harder shifts, you can secure 20-24 marks. For detailed reasoning questions, refer to the channel Art of Reasoning by Sanjay Sir, who has shared the exact questions from the 2022 exam.

Computer Knowledge

The difficulty of the Computer Knowledge section varies from year to year. However, a good knowledge base can help you clear the sectional cut-off even in tougher shifts. Arihant Publications and any relevant YouTube playlists can be useful resources.

General Awareness

Stay updated with current affairs through sources like AffairsCloud. Consistency is key, so aim to revise past 4-6 months of GA thoroughly.

Effective Time Management

Each candidate should formulate their own strategy based on their strengths and weaknesses. Time management is critical, but there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Tailor your preparation to suit your needs.
