My Journey to Success: SSC CGL 2019 and My First Preference for ASO in ECI

Every job in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) is a dream job. Just the sheer satisfaction of getting one of them is immense. In CGL 2019, after setting my sights on Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Central Excise and Excise Duty (ECI), I embarked on my preparation journey. This was my second official attempt, but my preparation was the first time, and my goal was to secure any level 7 job.

Back in 2019, I studied thoroughly and managed to score 183 marks in the Preliminary exam. However, the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown presented a significant challenge. The lockdown period extended to almost 6-8 months, during which many individuals lost hope and started complaining. Yet, I utilized the time wisely and concentrated on preparing for Tier 2.

Thresholds of success often come at the wrong time, but the lockdown may have been the turning point for me. Without it, I doubt I would have achieved the level 7 job I desired. After completing all the processes, my final score, including Tier 3, was a remarkable 638.59 out of 700, which was a very good score given my preparation and the time invested. It was my first real attempt at the CGL exam, and the results confirmed that I had secured the position of Excise Inspector, my first preference.

From ITI to SSC CGL

Back in 2015, when I first heard about the SSC CGL exams, India Traffic Institute (ITI) was my dream job. However, after careful consideration of the pros and cons of various job profiles and departments, I arrived at the conclusion that the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the ECI is the best-suited for me. Factors such as job location, promotions, and overall job satisfaction played a significant role in my decision-making process. I had listed ASO in ECI as my first preference in the post preference form for the SSC CGL 2018, and to my delight, I was successful.

Once I confirmed that ASO in ECI was my first preference in SSC CGL 2018, there was no need to participate in the 2019 DV (Descriptive Vestibular) exam, as the process was already sorted. Therefore, I decided to skip it.

Disclaimer: I am not suggesting that ASO in ECI is the best job one can get through SSC CGL. I am merely stating that it is the most suitable for me considering all aspects of a job.

Preparation Strategies and Tips

The path to success in SSC CGL is not just about hard work but also about smart preparation. Here are some key strategies and tips that can help you achieve your goals:

Target Setting: Clearly define your goals and target positions you are most interested in. Night and Day Routine: Dedicate yourself to a disciplined routine, even during challenging times. Time Management: Utilize lockdowns or periods of uncertainty as opportunities to enhance your preparation. Conclusion

Securing a dream job through SSC CGL is a testament to perseverance, preparation, and strategic planning. Whether it's ITI or ASO in ECI, every job has its unique set of advantages and disadvantages. It's crucial to evaluate all factors and choose a path that aligns with your long-term goals and aspirations.
