Know local practices: In Sweden, showing your ID and providing your civil registry number can be an alternative to card payment. However, the restaurant will send you a bill, which can harm your credit if not paid. Additionally, there might be administrative fees that you can't avoid.

In more serious cases, the restaurant might take your driver's license and report the incident to the police. The customer would have a set period to resolve the issue, often under a manager's discretion.

Alternative actions: You can use another card, use an ATM, call home for help, or even offer to wash dishes for the rest of the night. If the matter is an honest mistake, most managers will only ask for the customer's contact information and expect payment the following day. Treating the customer with respect often results in a positive resolution.
