Pursuing Your True Life Goals: Reflections on Living Authentically
Pursuing Your True Life Goals: Reflections on Living Authentically
As someone who has embarked on a lifelong journey towards the highest realization, I can attest to the profound impact that the pursuit of truth and reality can have on one's life. My desire, even at the age of 42, has been to experience the deepest reality, which is the essence of Brahman, or the existence-consciousness-bliss that underpins all transient phenomena. This journey involves cultivating a deep aspiration for Brahman and learning to merge with the soul to achieve immortality and enlightenment.
Exploring the Path to Enlightenment
To achieve this ultimate truth, it is essential to cleanse the subconscious mind of its sensual, egocentric, and materialistic propensities. This cleansing can be achieved through the teachings of sages, saints, and spiritual leaders, and by engaging in practices such as self-enquiry, a method famously taught by Ramana Maharshi. Self-enquiry involves directing the mind to inquire into the true nature of the Self or Atman, and through this process, one may experience the essence of Brahman.
The Influence of Family and Choice
Reflecting on my own journey, I often thought about the role of my parents and the choices I made. At the end of the day, my desire to make my parents happy was a driving force, but it was not the only reason. I realized that my happiness and fulfillment were just as important. One instance that stands out is when my father told me, ‘At the end of the day, it is my own desire to make my parents happy.’ This statement had a significant impact on me, emphasizing the importance of personal desires and happiness.
Throughout my life, my parents have allowed me to make my own choices, particularly in terms of my career path. They have never forced me into any specific field or career trajectory. This freedom to choose has been a blessing, as it allowed me to explore and make decisions based on what I truly wanted. Even now, at the age of 10th standard, I am still in the process of defining my path, but the guidance of my parents has been invaluable.
The Key to Success: Embracing the Journey
My father often advises, ‘It is about giving it my all, learning as much as I can, and then letting the rest take its course.’ Whether I pursue the JEE and attempt to get into an IIT or plan for an MBA later, the core is about enjoying the process and creating a future that I can be proud of. This philosophy encourages a mindset of embracing challenges and learning from them, rather than getting bogged down by the outcomes.
Life is not about achieving a certain goal but about the journey itself. It is about taking the knocks in stride, learning from every experience, and creating a life that is fulfilling on a deeper level. As one moves through life, it is essential to stay true to one's aspirations and desires, aligning them with the soul's true essence. This journey is often marked by reflections, self-enquiry, and a constant quest for higher realization.
So, if you are at a crossroads in your life, take a moment to reflect on what truly matters to you. Pursue your goals with passion and purpose, and remember that the path to happiness is often paved with personal growth and a deep sense of purpose.
