The Best Answer for Choosing Bank of India in an IBPS PO Interview
The Best Answer for Choosing Bank of India in an IBPS PO Interview
I recently cleared the IBPS PO Prelims and Mains, and had my very first interview at Dena Laxmi Bhavan Ahmedabad on January 31, 2019. Nervousness was at its peak, as it was my first interview, even for a private company. The process began with document verification, followed by a speech by the Dena Banks regional manager who aimed to boost our confidence. He asked us to share why we had chosen our top preference banks, and the horror of my answer was only just beginning.
A Cursory Answer and the Laughing Hall
When asked by the manager why I did not list Bank of India as my first preference (Dena and Vijaya have merged), I was quick to reveal I chose banks in alphabetical order. The hall erupted in laughter, and I felt a deep sense of shame. However, the manager was kind and advised me to find a better reason for the answer, as this question was bound to be asked in any interview.
Preparation and a Clever Response
Determined to give a thoughtful and well-prepared answer, I spent the next 10 minutes looking up information about the number of branches and vacancies at each bank. I found that Allahabad Bank had the most branches in the Gujarat region and the highest number of vacancies besides Bank of India. I also read through the notification again to gather additional insights.
During the interview, I answered with these insights and added a personal touch: I mentioned that my brother was a successful officer at Allahabad Bank, who had recommended me to apply for the position. I concluded by emphasizing that the diversity of the bank and its numerous branches in the region were compelling reasons for my choice.
Conclusion
Interviewing for a government job may seem less daunting than a private sector interview, but preparation is key. Finding logical and compelling reasons for your preference and adding a personal touch can earn you extra brownie points. No matter which bank you choose, the area and branches play a crucial role in your decision-making process.
Feel free to share your unique story of choosing Bank of India or any other bank of your choice. Always remember, honesty and a well-prepared answer go a long way in impressing the interview panel.
