The Race to Achieve Distinguished Toastmaster Award by June 30, 2020
The Predicted Surge in Distinguished Toastmaster Applications
With June 30, 2020 drawing closer, Toastmasters International is likely facing a significant increase in applications for the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award. This prestigious recognition is highly sought after and members are rushing to secure it before the deadline.
Overview of My Home Club's Situation
Let me share some details about my home club. We are a company-sponsored English-speaking corporate club with a consistently stable membership of around 40 individuals. Since our foundation in 2011, our club has maintained a healthy balance with the occasional turnover due to changes in the company. However, club efforts to attract new members through HR collaboration and internal marketing strategies ensure a steady influx of new members.
Club Dynamics and Membership
Out of our 41 active members, 8 individuals have been involved in Toastmasters for more than 5 years. Among these long-term members, a total of 6 individuals have either completed their terms as district leaders or will complete them by June. Only one of these 6 individuals has already received the DTM award, while the remaining 5, including myself, plan to apply in the summer.
Summary: 8-year-old club of 40 members, 6 potential DTM candidates, and 5 planning to apply this year.
Why the Haste?
The pressure to secure the DTM before the June 30, 2020, deadline is intense. Many members recognize that this award would bolster their resumes and professional networks. The DTM serves as a testament to leadership and commitment within Toastmasters, and club leaders are increasingly aware of this value.
Application Process and Criteria
To achieve the DTM award, members must demonstrate leadership and service within the club and district. This includes leading various committees, organizing meetings, and participating in regional or international events. The award is a significant milestone that recognizes excellence in Toastmasters and enhances one's professional profile.
How Club Leaders Can Help Members Achieve Their Goals
Club leaders play a crucial role in supporting members in their pursuit of the DTM award. By fostering a culture of excellence, providing guidance, and acknowledging members' achievements, leaders can inspire others to strive for this prestigious recognition.
Encouragement and Support
Club leaders can offer workshops, mentorship programs, and regular feedback to help members improve their leadership skills. Additionally, celebrating interim milestones and recognizing individual achievements can motivate members to push harder towards the DTM award.
Conclusion
As June 30, 2020, approaches, we can expect a surge in applications for the Distinguished Toastmaster award from clubs around the globe. My home club, with its strong foundation and dedicated membership, is a prime example of the exciting dynamics playing out in Toastmasters at this pivotal time.
By understanding the value of the DTM award and taking proactive steps to support members, clubs and individual members can make the most of this opportunity and achieve both personal and organizational goals.
