The Unexpected Journey: From Rude Colleague to Life Partner

Professional relationships can be complex and sometimes surprise us in unexpected ways. When I started my job more than a decade-and-a-half ago, I encountered a series of challenges that shaped my career and life.

My First Day on the Job

On my very first day, I was assigned to work with a colleague named X. However, she was not present in the office that day. I had to call her on her mobile to inform her about the assignment. X's questions were numerous, but she didn’t provide any helpful answers as the assignment was new to me as well. When she arrived in the office, she was incredibly rude and harsh. It seemed as though it was my fault to have chosen her for the assignment, even though I didn’t know her personally.

Amused by her coldness, X completed her part of the assignment while I was only halfway through mine. She threw her assignment sheets at me and left the room without a word. I was left fuming, unable to comprehend her abrupt and unreasonable behavior. However, as time passed, I found that X used to give me constant trouble at work. I was starting to manage her workload, and she would be choosy about the projects she picked up.

A Miraculous Friendship

Despite her rudeness, X was good at her work. However, one day, I revealed to her that I was going through a heartbreak. X, who was also dealing with her own heartbreak, took it upon herself to share her story. This lead to a bond that strengthened over time. We started sharing our experiences, our pain, and our happiness. We became good friends and started confiding in each other about our ex-partners and feelings towards marriage. X would express that she found a match through an arranged marriage and would not even see the face of the prospective groom, figuratively. I would often empathize with her and feel bad for her.

The Most Unexpected Turn of Events

After this emotional journey, the most surprising twist in our relationship came in the form of XY, our son. We became parents to a 10.5-year-old boy! We are happily married for almost 12 years now, and although X still acts mean and rude at times, particularly when she is hungry, we have managed to turn this difficult professional relationship into a loving and harmonious partnership.
