The Unforgettable Experience: 1 Hour Before and After the UPSC Interview
Today, I'm sharing a detailed account of my 3rd UPSC interview, with a focus on the 1 hour before and after the actual interview. This experience took place on 17th May 2023 and then again on 3rd January 2024. I hope this will provide a valuable glimpse into the journey of many aspirants who aspire to become Officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
3 Hours Before the Interview (3rd January 2024)
Waking up at 5:30 AM on a chilly morning, the temperature gauge on my phone read a frigid 5 degrees Celsius. Despite the cold, I broke my nine-month-long shower fasting by taking a much-needed shower. I then had a light breakfast and checked the documents and newspapers I would need. At 9 AM, I entered the Bhawan, a place that is both familiar and filled with nostalgia.
The Transformation into the Interview Slot (9 AM - 11.30 AM)
After submitting my phone for document verification, I had just one hour before the interview. The waiting period was filled with a mix of emotions. Some candidates were tense, ready for the challenge ahead, while others seemed to be enjoying the moment. The atmosphere was a blend of seriousness and a touch of lightness.
The Moment of Truth: Manoj Soni Sir's Board (11.30 AM - 12.30 PM)
As the last candidate of the morning slot for the RN Choubey Sir board, I prepared myself for the interview. Just before my turn, a person approached me with a unique observation: 'Are you two real brothers?' This came as a surprise, as I had never encountered such a scenario before. The interview started almost immediately, and it lasted around 25-30 minutes. I then left the building, feeling a mixture of relief and anticipation.
1 Hour After the Interview (Midday)
After my interview, I felt like the beloved character from Munna Bhai MBBS. There was no rush of emotions, just a sense of detachment. I spent this hour at Sarvana Bhawan Restaurant in Connaught Place, enjoying a ghee roast and a special thali. It was a moment of respite, a reminder that the interview was just one step in the process.
The Day After: Medical Examination and Results
The day following my interview was equally packed. I had to get a medical examination at a government hospital by 8:30 AM. After that, I returned to the UPSC Bhawan to submit the medical slip. This marked the conclusion of the 2023 UPSC cycle for me. The fate of many aspirants is sealed on the day of the interview, and the results were eagerly awaited.
Conclusion
The experience of the UPSC interview is a unique blend of tension, excitement, and personal history. It is a moment that stays with you, shaping your preparation and expectations. As I write this, I hope that those who are currently preparing can find comfort and inspiration in these stories.
