Transgender Staff in Coffee Shops and Restaurants: An Inclusive Perspective

Would you avoid a coffee shop or restaurant if they had transgender staff? The answer might surprise you—most people won't unless there is a specific reason to do so. This article explores the attitudes and perspectives on transgender staff in different service environments and why businesses should prioritize inclusivity and merit over initial judgments.

Customer Perspective: No Bias Against Transgender Staff

Many customers, including myself, have no issue with receiving service from transgender staff. Nope, I wouldn’t avoid either of them at all, especially coffee shops. I often struggle to avoid them, as my car seems to take me there automatically. In my experience, whether staff members are transgender or not varies widely and should not influence the quality of the service or the experience one has.

An interesting scenario might be if each staff member wore a t-shirt proclaiming their transgender status. While this could be seen as a marketing gimmick, my preference would remain the same if I liked the place. The importance of the staff's gender lies more in their skills, service, and overall effectiveness rather than their personal identity outside of work.

Employee Perspectives: Personal Interactions and Preferences

While I don't avoid transgender friends, I can certainly understand why some customers might have personal preferences. As a customer, I tend to avoid being served by people with tattoos covering their arms and hands. Understanding that tattoos do not indicate dirtiness, this preference stems from a personal dislike rather than any rationality. However, this does not reflect a broader discomfort with transgender staff, and customers should judge based on quality and service rather than attributes unrelated to the job.

Business Considerations: Quality of Service Over Discrimination

When it comes to choosing a coffee shop or restaurant, what really matters is whether the coffee is good or the meal is great with excellent service. The gender of the staff should be of no concern. The focus should be on businesses that don’t discriminate and provide top-notch experiences for their customers.

Important Issues: Bathroom Access and Sports Competitions

There are significant issues surrounding the treatment of transgender individuals, such as bathroom access. I firmly oppose allowing men with penises and testicles to use bathrooms designated for girls and women. Similarly, the medical implications of hormone therapy make it inappropriate for trans individuals to be involved in situations where physical safety and biology are at stake. For example, girls in high school bathrooms being raped by transgender individuals and women in prison becoming pregnant when a man is there in disguise highlight serious safety concerns that need to be addressed through policy and legislation.

Competitive Fairness: Gender and Sports

A specific issue that warrants attention is the participation of transgender individuals in sports competitions, particularly female sports. Males transitioning to become females who then compete against true biological women raises issues of fairness and the fundamental realities of human physiology. This aspect of transgender society and legality is both challenging and inequitable, showing a disregard for the physical realities that impact athletic performance.

Ultimately, a strong stance in favor of inclusivity in businesses like coffee shops and restaurants should be maintained, while also addressing critical issues involving safety and fairness.
