How Many Vacant Seats are There in Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs)?

As of the latest information available, there are a total of 86 vacant seats across all IISERs combined. This data has been verified and uploaded on the official IISER website.

The distribution of these vacant seats is as follows:

It’s important to note that these figures are subject to change as JAC (Joint Admission Committee) will be contacting eligible candidates through email and SMS to fill these seats in the near future.

Overview of Seat Filling in Previous Years

It should be mentioned that over 95% of seats were filled in the older IISERs, such as PKBM. This leaves only a small number of seats, primarily at IISER Bhopal and IISER Tirupati. However, the situation at IISER Thiruvananthapuram (Tvm) remains unknown. Rough estimates suggest that the number of vacant seats could be less than 5%.

In a rather surprising development, there was no post-allotment round in the previous year. By the time registrations closed on August 20, there were 40 seats remaining vacant at IISER Mohali, 25 at IISER Pune, and 25 at IISER Tirupati. If a similar scenario prevails in the remaining IISERs (which include those not yet mentioned), a combined total of around 150 seats might still be vacant across all IISERs.

Current Trends

It is evident that for this year, IISERs have chosen not to completely fill up all the seats. This trend is observed across multiple IISERs, as at least a few seats remain unfilled in IISER Bhopal and possibly in other IISERs as well.
