The Nature of Uniqueness in Human Beings

Uniqueness is a fundamental characteristic of human beings. Every individual possesses a unique blend of experiences, skills, and perspectives that contribute to our collective diversity. This essay explores the concept of uniqueness, its significance, and the importance of recognizing every person’s individuality.

Uniqueness: An Inherent Quality of Humanity

Human Beings Created Equal but Not The Same

As a Baha'i and a follower of Baha'u'llah, the Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith, I believe that human beings are created equal but with unique qualities. Each individual is endowed with different attributes and perspectives, making us truly diverse.

Baha'i faith emphasizes the importance of individual character and unique contributions to society. By embracing our uniqueness, we can better understand and appreciate the rich tapestry of human existence.

It is important to observe and nurture each person's individuality to ensure that we do not lose our sense of self and become mere copies of others. The ability to express one's own will and uniqueness is a form of eternity, a timeless quality that endures beyond the physical realm.

Uniqueness and Human Assurance

Humans Were Created to Be Unique

Being unique is not only about distinctiveness but also about the assurance and confidence that comes from recognizing our individuality. It is crucial to stay true to oneself and maintain a strong sense of self. Straying too far from our unique path can lead to a sense of lost identity and purpose. By following our individual paths, we can achieve a deeper sense of fulfillment and contentment in life.

Striving to become a copy of others is a mistake that can rob us of our true essence and potential. Embracing our unique qualities can set us on a journey of self-discovery and growth, ultimately leading to personal and spiritual development.

Comparing People and Defining Uniqueness

The Absoluteness of Uniqueness

Comparing people to find who is more unique is a misguided and superficial approach. Uniqueness is an absolute concept; something is either unique or it is not. No one can be described as being “more” unique than others. There is no room for qualifiers such as “very” or “quite.” Every individual's uniqueness is in its own right, and this inherent quality makes each person equally special and valuable.

It is also important to recognize that every person, regardless of their circumstances, is uniquely divine. Even those who face challenges and hardships are still unique and should be treated with dignity and respect. The fact that they are unique does not mean they are more or less deserving of human rights. Every human being, irrespective of their situation, shares the same inherent worth and dignity.

A Call for Respect and Understanding

Equal Human Rights and Special Needs

No one is more special than others. Even individuals with special needs should not be treated as if they are more special or deserving of different treatment. Embracing uniqueness means acknowledging and respecting the diversity within human beings, regardless of their circumstances. It is essential to treat everyone with the same respect, understanding, and empathy, recognizing that every individual has their unique journey and challenges.

We should strive to create a society where everyone feels valued and respected for who they are. By promoting understanding, compassion, and inclusivity, we can build a more harmonious and equitable world where every person can thrive and flourish.
